Spider-Like Blood Vessels on Skin

Spider angiomas — small, spider-like blood vessels visible just beneath the skin surface — are a telltale sign of liver disease. They appear most commonly on the face, neck, chest, and arms. These occur because a damaged liver can't properly metabolize estrogen, causing blood vessels to dilate and become visible. While one or two spider veins are normal, having multiple is concerning.

Pro Tip

Press the center of the spider vein — if it blanches white and refills from the center out, it's a spider angioma.
